Having dry damaged curls is not fun! I am a victim to dry, limp, lifeless curls myself and I have trained my hair to do the opposite. Some people think that doing a hair mask twice month will decrease their dryness when in reality your curls need a lot more care. Sometimes it's not only the products you put in your hair, its the heat, and the styling materials you use too. Below are some tips that I think you'll find helpful during your journey to healthy curls.
Use a sulfate free shampoo. There are so many shampoos on the market that have such harsh chemicals that dry out your curls instantly. If you have curly hair you should know that it is prone to dryness so it's best to stay away from these chemicals
Apply a hair mask weekly. Hair masks are like a special treat for your curls. They really give your hair that boost that it needs with extra moisture and frizz protectant. For the best results, apply it then put on a shower cap for 30 minutes then wash it out thoroughly
Do not apply heat. I can't stress this enough, if you are looking to revive your damaged hair you can not use any type of heat on your hair. These styling tools are burning the hairs off resulting in more dryness and frizz. I would hold off on the flat iron for a few months until you see results.
Rinse your hair with cool water. When you are washing your hair and ready to rinse out your conditioner, rinse with cold water to prevent frizz and enhance shine. Hot water will make the hair frizzy and dry.
Don't straighten your hair from wet to dry. This is the worst thing you can do to your curls. it doesn't matter if you have a 'wet to dry' straightener. You will be frying your hair (literally) killing all of your progress.
Give your hair a break from updos. I know a lot of people like to wear their hair in buns and updos for work but try to hold off on the tight hairstyle. Wearing your hair too much in a slick back will cause breakage and more hair loss. Try to find a balance.
Get a trim regularly. Some might think that growing your hair out is good but trimming it will make your hair grow healthier and faster believe it or not. If you leave split ends they will start creeping up your hair causing even more damage.
I hope these tips can come in handy for anyone looking to revive their curls. What are some tricks you use when your hair is feeling dry. Drop a comment down below and let me know!
